About WaterDecoded
Whole-home water decisions, decoded.
Why this site exists
A whole-home water treatment system can cost thousands of dollars, and the right one depends on what is in the water. WaterDecoded takes a symptom or a test result and points to the type of system that fits it.
How we evaluate
Anything we say about your health or what is in your water comes from a primary source, and a number that cannot be traced to one stays off the page. The editorial policy lists the publishers.
Specifications such as flow rate and tank capacity come from the manufacturer’s current product page. When a system is not certified to an NSF or ANSI standard, the page says so.
What you need depends on what your water is doing, so test your water before you buy a system.
Manufacturers, retailers, and affiliate programs have no say in what the pages say. WaterDecoded runs no ads and no sponsored posts.
How WaterDecoded makes money
WaterDecoded makes money through affiliate links. If you click a product link and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Links run through Geniuslink, and some lead to manufacturer sites such as SpringWell.
When a system costs less bought straight from the manufacturer, or a cheaper option fits your home better, the page says so. The affiliate disclosure lists the programs.
What you will find here
Water Problems starts from a smell, a stain, or scale on the fixtures and works back to the cause. If you have already narrowed it to hardware, the softener, filter, or both page compares them. A lab result or city water report has its own guide, How to Read Your Water Test.
WaterDecoded is educational. It is not a substitute for certified water testing or the advice of a licensed professional. What is in your water, and which system fits it, comes down to a test of your own supply.
